Solid moisturizers are the balm
Yeah, we couldn’t help it. Solid balms can be applied lightly, with just the right amount of product without risk of being heavy handed. We all get greedy, right? We love this type of product because it is infinitely refillable with an easy to clean metal tin. Less waste, less of a burden on our landfills. Win, win.
Minimal packaging is infinitely fashionable.
Formulation
This refillable solid lotion warms on contact with a light, creamy application, using only what you need. Kokum and mango blend beautifully to create a protective barrier to keep moisture in and protect against free radical damage from pollution. The antioxidants found in these two beauties reduce environmental stresses from sun damage, and as a New York based company, we know dry winter weather and harsh summer sun. Kokum reduces itchiness and redness due in part to its anti-inflammatory properties. Mango butter absorbs into skin quickly, is highly effective in increasing collagen, ideal for plump, firmer skin and reducing the appearance of dark spots.
Kokum butter is grown in Southern India and we chose it as a substitute for cocoa butter which has been associated with child labor. It grows easily in contrast to cocoa, and grows with very little water and does not require spraying and pesticides.
Mango butter is cold-pressed which maintains its nutritious goodness that’s delivered to skin. It is a very stable butter with a great shelf life, which in our mind is part of having a sustainable product if we can take advantage of products that hold up well. Mango trees sequester carbon very effectively in fact, they are carbon negative, using up more carbon than they emit in the harvesting and production of mango. Wood from mango trees is incredibly dense, and grows tasty fruits that provide local communities with food.
We source our triple-filtered beeswax from a family owned, US cooperative of apiaries, entirely focused on the health of their colonies. Choosing our beeswax from a cooperative like this ensures responsible harvesting from bees, and a high quality, healthy product for us. This is the same pure beeswax we use in our candles. Not only are we supporting US farmers, but we can ensure that no pesticides are used. Bleached beeswax loses the nutritional proponents during processing, and many times when outsourced from other countries it can contain blended ingredients like petrol. All pollinators (not just honeybees) are extremely important for pollination and within our food chain. Though we understand the resistance towards beeswax in theory, as an entomology enthusiast practicing permaculture and growing native keystone species, we can have a greater impact by supporting agriculture and prevent species die off by supporting these practices. If left in any doubt, contact your local apiary and they will gush about how much they “love their gals”.
